Interest in women’s professional basketball is growing rapidly. Ticket sales, merchandise sales, in-game attendance and WNBA app downloads are all up.
Demand for women’s sports isn’t the problem - media coverage is. This campaign sought to bring WNBA news from the footnotes to the headlines, by hijacking media attention during televised games in the men’s league.
Basketball players in the men’s pro league regularly write messages on their sneakers, to draw attention to causes they care about, and to write personal mottos.
During NBA all star weekend, NBA players took the headlines the media missed, and wrote them on their sneakers - Turning footnotes into headlines.
